(our map tracker quit working after Bergland)

Since we had a slow day yesterday we decided to crank it up a notch today. We headed east on trail 2 towards Watersmeet and went all the way to Crystal Falls.

The trail was in beautiful shape the entire way and we only saw a few sleds. Then we headed north towards Amasa and then west back towards Bergland. We ended up putting on 280 miles. It was a great day of riding with my buddy Cale.

Snowmobiling Presque Isle WI Marenisco MI

All of my high school buddies headed home today and my college buddy Cale arrived. He traveled all day, so we went for a short ride to Bambam’s in Marenisco, MI. It was a quick 20 mile ride up and back. We each got a cheese steak sandwich (delicious) and a drink. The trails were decent and the groomers were cleaning things up from the weekend traffic.

Snowmobiling Wakefield Bergland Lake of the Clouds White Pine Marenisco MI Lake Gogebic

Saturday, February 23rd, 2013

After our warm up ride yesterday we decided to head for Lake of the Clouds. We headed out around 9 and rode to Wakefield for breakfast at Korner Kitchen. You have to go off the trail a bit, but they have signs along the streets for you to follow. It’s well worth the trip over there! Trail 11 from Winchester to Wakefield was in awesome shape.

We were the first sleds through there since all of the powder had fallen. After breakfast we gassed up and rode towards Bergland. Trail 8 was beat up a bit, mainly due to the weekend traffic. When we got closer to Bergland we crossed paths with the groomer and it was smooth sailing after that. We took trail 102 north to trail 11 and made our way to Lake of the Clouds.

Then we rode through Silver City on our way to Konteka in White Pine. We got gas at Konteka and made our way to Bergland. We rode the lake down to trail 1 and made our way back to Presque Isle. There is plenty of snow for the whole area and the trails were in excellent condition!

Snowmobiling Marenisco Bergland MI

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

This is one of those trips I look forward to every year. Last year only 2 of us made it and this year there were 6. It’s guys weekend with my high school buddies.
Since most of them haven’t ridden since 2011 we decided to take it easy today. We rode up to Bergland, got a few sleds fixed and had lunch at the Bergland Bay Bar. The BBB has the best hot beef sandwiches in the north woods! Be sure to stop by and try them! The trails were in great shape and it snowed all day. We took trail 1 to lake Gogebic and rode the lake into Bergland, then took the same route back (you can see the route on the map). We also ran into some of the C.P. Riders at “The Hoop”! By the time we got back home 4-6″ of fresh powder had fallen.

During our ride the trails were perfect except one small section (15 miles that had some “chop”) other than that they couldn’t have been better! The groomers were out in FULL FORCE today! We counted no less than 13 DIFFERENT groomers during our ride.

Snowmobiling Marenisco Bergland Watersmeet MI Root Cellar Lake Gogebic Lodge

Saturday, January 19th, 2013

We’ve been waiting for snow and it’s finally here! The trails are still a little rough, but getting better each day. We ran into the groomer from Presque Isle on trail 1. He stopped to say hello and told us that he was trying to pack down the wet snow. We picked up another 4 inches today. It snowed like crazy tonight, but was light snow that blew off into the woods (so you won’t see much of it on the snow gauge).

If you plan to ride lake Gogebic, use EXTREME CAUTION! There is a 3 ft ice heave that goes from fish tales pub n grub all the way across the lake, about 1/2 mile north of Root Cellar. When we rode up on it, they were fishing a sled off the bottom of the lake that went through earlier. Check the map below to see the exact location:

Snowmobiling Marenisco Bergland Watersmeet MI

Friday, December 28th, 2012

We suited up and headed out a bit earlier than yesterday. Trail 6 was a little rough but trail 1 was in decent shape. It was groomed last night and we were the first sleds on it. After we got through Marenisco, we ran into some wet areas that had boulders and logs in the trail. If you ride in this area, be alert, because you never know what will be over the next hill. We got to the Gogebic Lodge and had breakfast. Not many people have been riding the lake, so we decided to take trail 1 all the way to town. We found more rocks and logs, but the trail was as good as it could be with the amount of snow on the ground. After getting gas in town we headed down trail 13 to the south end of the lake. 13 was in decent shape with the usual wet spots, rocks and logs. Then we got on trail 2 East to Rogers Bar. We ate a sandwich there and then headed for home. Unless we get 6-12″ of snow tonight, we are going to take tomorrow off. If it was mid March, I would probably go out and ride, but since we have the entire season to go, I’d rather not tear up our equipment.

I started tracking our rides and it kind of worked. Check out our track below:

Snowmobiling between Manitowish Waters and Winchester Wisconsin Bear Bar

Friday, December 28th, 2012

Today was our first ride of the season. We started out with a ride to Presque Isle for breakfast at The Last Wilderness cafe with our friends The Blooms. The food was great as usual. After breakfast we got gas and headed back home to meet up with my Dad.

Our friends headed home and my Dad suited up. We headed west on trail 6 to trail 11 north.

We saw the groomer working on trail 11 for the first time this season. After passing the groomer we got to play in a lot of loose powder, but there were a lot of down logs and limbs. Make sure you pay attention while riding through this area! Then we hooked up on trail 2 into Marenisco. Other than a few rocks in the center of the trail, it was in good shape. We grabbed some food at Bam Bam’s and then headed for home.
